Introduction

In 2019, within the context of the update of the Municipal Urban Development Program, the Municipality of San Nicolás de los Garza sought the opportunity of incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals in its metropolitan development instruments and urban planning processes. The municipality, through the Technical Secretariat and the Directorate of Strategic Projects, sought collaboration with UN-Habitat to develop a city vision with a long-term perspective, aligned to the principles of the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda.

In a context of rapid growth and limited urban planning and management capacities, Haitian cities have difficulties to cope with this uncontrolled urbanisation dynamic. Urban growth raises considerable challenges for development, such as urban sprawl, the infrastructure deficit and mobility issues. It is becoming urgent to provide municipal administrations with urban planning tools capable of meeting the current challenges of Haitian cities and ensuring their sustainable urban development.

The project aimed to create a strategic framework for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Angola, determining the main challenges and opportunities of the country. A set of possible interventions is listed, through pilot projects proposed by UN-Habitat for 2018-2022, in order to support the United Nations and the Government of Angola in achieving the objectives agreed in UNPAF.
