Urban October: a month to engage in urban discussion

Urban October: a month to engage in urban discussion

The month of Urban October is an excellent moment for national and local governments, universities, NGOs, communities, and the private sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities created by the sudden and immediate change that our cities face day by day from an environmental, demographic, economic and social point of view.

During this Urban October 2022 Our City Plans team organised two training events, the first on the 27 October 2022 and the second during World Habitat Day, on the 31 October 2022.
Both were held online and at different times so that people all around the world could participate.

Specifically, the first event was designed for Asia & the Pacific Region, while the second was for Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean Region.

The objective was to train participants on how to use Our City Plans Digital Platform and its different features. There was a particular focus on the questionnaire that guides cities to customise their urban planning processes according to their needs, challenges, objectives, and available resources.
Our City Plans Digital Platform aims to help users adapt the incremental and flexible toolbox to their own specific context.

On the occasion of these two events, four representatives shared their experience of adapting Our City Plans to their city, showing how the process varies depending on the stakeholders involved, the needs, and the available resources, in particular Ms. Smita Yogal Shrestha from Dhulikhel City, Nepal and Ms. Ha Dang from Tam Ky, Vietnam for the first event and Mr. Zakaria Oulad from Agadir, Morocco and Ms. Larissa Menescal from Fortaleza, Brazil for the second event. It was very stimulating to learn how this methodology can guide cities with different contexts – both smaller and larger urban areas – in the realisation of a plan.

The events were a great success!

We received a lot of positive feedback and an increased number of visits and user accounts to Our City Plans Digital Platform.

Do not miss all the news that will be published soon, including our "Call for Cities" that will take place with the new year. We will offer you training, sessions with experts, and discussions that can help you, stay updated!
